A Look Back: My Top 10 Favorite Images of 2015

This is one of those "I can't believe how great this turned out" images for me. Marina, the beautiful bride, chose to wear a Gatsby inspired wedding dress adorned with gold and feather like lace reminiscent of the roaring 20's. The bridal suite in the magnificent Henry Hall Wilson House had this beautiful vintage couch along with a gigantic gold trimmed mirror behind it, just begging to be used in a photo. We nabbed this quick bridal portrait just seconds before she walked outside to meet her eagerly awaiting groom Eric.

Kelsey and David got married at the historic Church of the Little Flower in the mountains of WNC. This image was taken just after the ceremony as they walked hand in hand through a grassy area just outside the chapel. I just love the dreamy atmosphere that the back lit sun along with the bright pastel colors of Spring provide.

Lauren and Vanessa were courageous enough to get married in Charleston last Spring before the historic Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people, both young and old, slowed down to yell "Congratulations!" from their car windows as we wondered through the streets of Charleston to grab a few shots of them just being themselves on their wedding day. I just love the simplicity of this shot. Nothing like a simple background, with two people madly in love, to show "Love is All You Need."

Jen and Lateef got married last summer at the beautiful Brahma Ridge Event Center just outside of Asheville. It was a hot summer day in June and they were crazy enough to listen to me when I suggested we take a short hike up to the top of a ridge for this shot. I just love the isolation it provided along with with beautiful back lit sun and mountains in the background. Plus the purple flowers in between them brings the perfect amount of "pop"to the image.

Courtney and Bobby got married at the beautiful Cliffs at Walnut Cove just south of Asheville. Unfortunately it rained on their wedding day and they were forced to perform the ceremony under a tent, but it cleared up just long enough for us to grab a few shots of the two of them alone in this gorgeous setting. I just love how the cloudy weather lets the color pop. And the romanticism between these two is just undeniable. For more images from this wedding check out the full blog post here !

Amy and Elliot were married at a newer venue to WNC, the Vineyard at 37 High Holly in Scaly Mountain. This place was just unbelievable. Does it really get any prettier than a wedding at a vineyard in the mountains? I just love how this shot captures everything in one image: the excitement of just marrying the one you love, the natural beauty of the vineyard, the reception hall lights twinkling in the background at dusk. You name it, it has it. For more images from this wedding see the full blog post here!

Marileigh and Drew were married at the NC Arboretum in Asheville, one of the prettiest venues around in my opinion. We were blessed with some beautiful light right at sunset which created the perfect setting for this photo. I just love the golden hues, the sun setting in the background, the expressions on their faces, and the way the ridge line in the background follows the contour of their bodies. Sometimes it just all comes together.

I felt like we got so many great images from Deanna and Austin's wedding that I didn't even know where to begin in choosing just one. The fairy tale like atmosphere of the woods surrounding the property made me feel like a kid in a candy store with these two. Ultimately I decided on this one image just because I felt like it captured the most emotion of them all. You can't plan for these types of shots. Sometimes they just happen. Another great image from the NC Arboretum, this area is called the "quilt garden" and the staff there is constantly changing it depending on the season. The bright colors were perfect for this springtime wedding, and I just love the symmetry of the gardens and the landscaping behind it. My wife always says that the bride and groom Monique and Robby look like cake toppers, and I can't say that I disagree!

Sometimes photography on your wedding day can start to feel a bit too serious, and there's nothing a like a dog to lighten the mood a little and put a smile on your face. This started out as a shot of the bride, Caroline, and her bridesmaids walking through a meadow together at the beautiful Fields of Blackberry Cove. Suddenly Caroline's dog, Buddy, who was also in the wedding, just decided to walk right in front of my camera and take a seat! I guess he wanted to make sure he didn't get left out of the wedding album!
